Recommendations for Action for schools

The 2009 WCRF Policy Report addresses 4 Recommendations for Action to those responsible within schools, with the core aim 'to make food systems, food, nutrition, and regular physical activity essential parts of school life and learning'. These Recommendations are:

  • Provide healthy daily meals for all staff and pupils, together with facilities for active recreation, activity, and sports
  • Incorporate food and nutrition (including food preparation and cooking skills) and physical education into the mandatory core curriculum
  • Ensure that teaching materials are independently originated and free from commercial bias
  • Do not allow vending machines that offer snacks high in sugar, fat or salt, or sugary drinks and withdraw such 'fast foods' and drinks from school canteens

WCRF UK supporting schools to implement the Recommendations for Action
WCRF UK has developed this comprehensive 'For Teachers' web section offering downloadable KS1 and KS2 lesson plans, worksheets, activities and interactive material to support teaching on healthy lifestyles in line with the existing National Curriculum for England and Wales. All materials have been produced independently by WCRF UK and are free from commercial bias.
