World Cancer Research Fund UK

Our vision is to live in a world where no one develops a preventable cancer

Our mission is to champion the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can help people make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.

One in two

Cancer currently affects one in two people in the UK but about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented through eating a healthy diet, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight. That’s around 84,000 cancer-free lives.

Our work

  • The cornerstone of our research programme is our Continuous Update Project, which informs our work. It’s the world’s largest source of scientific research on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity.
  • We translate this science into accurate, accessible, understandable information so that you can have the best available cancer prevention advice at your fingertips in our Recommendations for Cancer Prevention.
  • By funding research and delivering health information programmes we empower people to make lifestyle choices that can prevent cancer, so that they can live happy, healthy, cancer-free lives.

How we operate

World Cancer Research Fund UK is registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales (Registration Charity No. 1000739). Around 90% of our funding comes from the UK public with the remainder from business, trusts and foundations.

WCRF UK adheres to the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice and is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB), which means that we are committed to fundraising practices that are open, fair, honest and legal.
