some of the toppings below to make the characters on pages 4, 5, 6 and 7
To make Owl Eyes
- cucumber, peas, carrot, red pepper
To make Pesto Man

To make Bean Head
- baked beans, cucumber, green olives, sweetcorn, cottage cheese
To make Sweetie - using sweet potato
- alfalfa sprouts, sweetcorn, stuffed olives, tomatoes, radishes
Equipment
fork
small sharp knife
chopping board
oven
1 potato makes 2 faces
Remember! Ask an adult to help with all the peeling and chopping. Wash your hands before you start.
Step 1

First prick the potatoes with a fork.
Then, ask an adult to bake them in a hot oven (220ºC, 425ºF or Gas Mark 7) for about an hour or until a fork will easily go through the potato.
If you are using sweet potato, only bake for about 40 minutes.
Step 2

Ask the adult to cut the cooked potatoes in half longways.
Let the potatoes cool down a little then try out some of the faces on the next few pages – or make up your own!
Owl eyes

Make your potato look like an owl like this:
- Eyes - cucumber and peas
- Nose - carrot
- Mouth - red pepper
Pesto Man

Now add these:
- Eyes - black olives
- Nose - baby sweetcorn
- Mouth - green pepper
- Hair - grated cheese
